Making money online is a popular topic these days. There is a lot of buzz about it. Working from home and putting in only a few hours each day is certainly an attractive prospect. You will be hooked, once money starts flowing in.

When starting as an internet marketer, you have to be cautious. You want to learn from the mistakes of others, and take the easiest path to success. Follow these 3 steps, and you will achieve your goals with the least hassle.

1) Follow the right system or method

There are many methods to make money online. As a beginner, you will be faced with the difficult question of which method to begin with. You will also need to decide which internet marketing guru to follow. For a start, I would STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to begin with affiliate marketing.

There are many complex methods out there. The biggest mistake a beginner can make is to adopt a complex method like PPC or MLM. These methods are difficult to learn, and you will get discouraged easily. Remember, your goal is to make money. Always stick with the simplest or easiest way possible.

There are many affiliate programs and products out there. Choose a product or program that you are comfortable with, and start promoting it as best as you can. Some affiliate products give up to 75% commission. Many internet marketers have become rich through affiliate marketing.

2) Keep It Simple

Another common mistake that beginners make is to overload themselves with information. Again remember, your aim is to make money. Your aim IS NOT to become an information junkie.

Select a high quality program or system and learn the basics. Put them into action, and work hard at making money from them. You do not have to learn every nook and cranny of the system before starting. Get started as soon as you can, and learn as you go along.

3) Focus until you succeed

Finally, persevere with your chosen strategy until you succeed. It is easy to get sidetracked, and hop from one strategy to another. Success in internet marketing does not come overnight. You are not going to build that list of 5000 clients overnight. It requires some dedication before you will see results. Trust me. Stick with it and the results will come eventually.

Follow these 3 steps, and you will soon see money flowing in. Good luck!

Without question you absolutely need to own your domain name if you intend to blog to make money. Now even sites that are not set up to earn an income are at a disadvantage when using a free blog site. The problem lies in the lack of control you have with your site. The free host has their own set of rules and regulations that can be very restrictive thereby undermining your ability to user the site in a way that is suitable for your purposes. When you are blogging to make money the ‘income’ factor further strengthens your motivations and needs to have complete control over your domain.

Here are 3 strong and compelling reasons you should NOT set up your blogging business on a free blog site.

Create Your Own ‘Unique’ Name

Free sites although they may not cost you anything (but business) normally they come with sub domain names for your site which looks unprofessional. By purchasing your own domain you can select any name you want. In addition you are also able to better control the length of your url which is always recommended to be as short as possible. This makes it easier to remember and also easier to type into the browser bar.

Create Your Own ‘Rules’

By owning your own domain there is no worry about ‘abusing’ policies or ‘privileges’ of a hosted blog or even having to ‘deal’ with the imposed limitations on your site. Blogs were created to be platforms of free thinking and originality so why would you want to place yours on a ‘host’ that restricts you? It would be much like trying to surf the internet in China!

Uninterrupted Service

As ‘discrepancies’ arise so will the service to your site. On a hosted site you can NOT expect to maintain any type of consistencies or originality that would not be disrupted by the host. If you need to ‘abide’ by the ruling of another ‘power’ how do you intend to build a blog with personality and uniqueness? These are attributes you are definitely going to need if you are blogging to make money!

Remember if your service is disrupted or down so is your ability to earn an income!

When you are blogging to make money you need to own your domain lock, stock and barrel. The free sites offered online are great and all however they can also be quite restrictive and always at a bad time. The blogging business takes things to a different level insofar as income is involve therefore ‘thing’s are more serious. It is imperative that the site owner to be in total control, of everything! The 3 reason discussed above in opposition of using free sites, especially if you blog to make money, are very compelling and undeniable. The choice of course is always up to the individual but it is important to remember what you are getting if you choose a free domain when working online. In this case you get what you pay for, or not!

Hiding IP address has now become a common place among business owners and individuals alike. This is done in order to have a protected identity online from malicious people who are out to steal identities. This is possible through the use of software which capable of masking your IP address.

Protecting the information you share online can also be done through other means but there is none as effective as the use of software which is why most businesses and individuals prefer this option. This tool helps change your internet protocol address therefore keeping your privacy. Your internet protocol address is a number assigned to you by your ISP, and it serves as a homing device to know location. It can also be used to access your data, both the ones you share online and those on your personal or business computer. This alone gives you reason to want to keep your privacy online. Other benefits you may enjoy when you hide your internet protocol address include:

· Spam prevention: Every site you visit has a log of your personal ID which can be used to identify and monitor your activities on the website in subsequent visits. Some of these sites can easily get your email address with the knowledge of your IP, and then sell this to spam sites.

· Access to geographically-restricted site: With a change in your personal information, you can access sites that can only allow people of a specific region access to them.

· Shop online: There is a high risk of shopping online without adequate security because you share your financial information with these shopping websites. Hackers can easily access these sites and retrieve your IP in order to monitor your activities and steal data as you share them.

· Access to sites that have previously blocked you: With a change in your unique identifier, you can log in back to sites that have previously blocked you out. These sites recognize you by your address but a change will make you anonymous to them.

You will find out that with the reasons given above, it is imperative to hide your IP address to avoid being a victim of online embarrassment, hacking and spamming. With the use of the necessary software, you can make every browsing experience worth the while.

There’s a small feature on the way that’s about to make another big change to the way people use Facebook: the ability to “Like” comments.

Much like you can currently “Like” status updates, wall posts and other items in the News Feed, Facebook has started rolling out a “Like” button for comments. The feature is not yet live for everyone.

The functionality is much the same as traditional “Likes.” In a blog post, Facebook writes that, “when you click ‘Like’ on a comment the commenter will receive a notification. Other people who can see the comment based on its privacy setting also will be able to see who has liked the comment.”

Already the web’s number one time sink, expect this feature to add a few more minutes per day to our collective use of Facebook.

One of the biggest mistakes that new internet business owners make is thinking once their websites are up and running, they just need to sit back and watch the customers and orders roll in. In defense of the newbie, many experienced, but unscrupulous, marketers lead new business owners to believe this is the case so that they can simply make the sale or build their downline.

What most new business owners don’t understand is that, even if you have a top-notch website with the best products available on the internet, if potential customers can’t find it then they can’t buy from you, and your business is going to fail.

To avoid this situation, it’s imperative that once your website is live, the internet search engines know about your site. What’s even better is that you take the search engines into consideration as part of the process of building your website. This can be achieved by doing your keyword research before building your site and making sure that your pages are rich with your targeted keywords for the best possible search engine optimization (SEO).

If the search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) don’t know that your website exists then they can’t include links to your website as part of a search results page. To make sure the search engines consider your website in the way you want, there are a couple of steps you need to take.

First, you should identify the keywords that are most appropriate to your products and services. Think of them as being the words and phrases that your potential customers would type into a search box when they are looking for your specific products or services.

Second, you’ll need to build each of your website pages around those phrases to make sure the search engines will be able to ‘find’ the pages you’ve created. Search engines use programs called ’spiders’ or ‘robots’ to review millions of web pages every day, in order to determine what type of information is contained on those websites. (You may have also heard this process referred to as ‘crawling’.) This information is reported back to the central database of the search engine, where it is then categorized and ranked based on keyword relevancy.

Each search engine uses different techniques and algorithms to determine which web pages are most relevant to a particular keyword phrase. The exact algorithms are secret, and are thought to change over time.

If you are able to effectively optimize your website for your chosen keywords, the search engines will be able to drive large numbers of targeted visitors to your website, especially if a page of your website appears near the top of the natural search results.

Not only that, but search engines provide results in order; meaning the sites that are considered to be most relevant to the keyword phrase will appear near the top of the results list. Since most users tend to click the links near the top of the list first, it’s important to not only get your web pages properly indexed for your specific keywords, but also to get your web pages near the top of the results page. Accomplish this and your business is destined for long-term success.

Are you looking to find low competition keywords perhaps even in a competitive niche? In order to attract traffic to your website or articles you really need to get your content to be ahead of the competition on the search engines. One way to do this is to find suitable long tail keywords that will attract your buyers.

To find these keywords you really need to get inside the mind of the buyer at the time they are looking to purchase the items you are trying to sell. Try to think like the buyer and what they will be searching for. In high competition niches, often the only way you will get onto page 1 of google is to pick a long tail keyword without much competition.

For example, weight loss is one of the biggest and most competitive niches in internet marketing and so in order to beat the competition you will need to find a keyword or phrase that only has a limited number of search results – preferably under 1000 exact matches. So, have a think about the mindset of someone who wants to lose weight for example, someone may want to “lose the weight off my thighs”. This has only a low number of direct matches (actually 3 at the time of writing this article) and only 1 paid advert for this phrase. Think along these lines with more specific phrases to suit the product and you could come up with long tail keywords that will get you a good amount of traffic.

In order to make large amounts of sales and hence get a good income in affiliate marketing you need to be able to keep coming up with phrases like these and act on them so do your research or else get someone else to do it for you and you will be well set to making many sales and a great income!

1 – Do your research and find suitable and realistic keywords

This is the important piece of work and a little bit of care goes a long way. Think through a few terms that your visitors could be using to find a site such as yours. To begin with, do not go for anything that is going to have too much competition. “Mortgages”, for example, would be a very bad idea. But you also want terms with traffic.

How to achieve this balance it is an article in its own right, but terms such as “Best UK Fixed Rate Mortgages” will be more along the lines that we are looking for.

2 – Write a post loosely mentioning these keywords

Now write a post either about the keywords or that can mention them. Do not go over the top trying to mention the keywords! If they can be naturally mentioned in the title and a few times throughout the post then great.

But after you have finished look at your word count and how many times you have mentioned the keywords. Keep the target phrases to less than 2% of the post – so in a 400 word article, no more than 8 references in the title and main post text.

3 – Write more posts, articles and guest posts

Now start writing more detail! I like to write an initial post about the subject and then write more detailed posts about different elements of the subject.

For example, if I wanted to do it with this article, I would then write up each step in a single post, maybe adding extra posts explaining how to find suitable keywords and so on.

Publish these to your website, linking from the main post (written in step 2) to the detail steps. This gives the more detail links the search engines see.

Next write new versions of these posts and submit each version to article directories, to blogs as guest posts and so on. On each submission, have it linking to the post written in step 1 and your website’s home page.

This third step is the longest stage of the process and is about getting the word out about your article and loads of links in.

Conclusion

1. Decide what keyword you want to target.

2. Write a page including that keyword.

3. Write more detail about the subject and syndicate the writing to get links and visitors to that information.

That is it! Your three steps to getting more website visitors through the search engines, totally for free. Keep doing that for more keywords and your traffic levels will rapidly increase. For a blog, I like to recommend one new keyword per month, quite an easy level to work with.

Plus, as you are working through these steps your general website ranking is improving anyway, so you will also start to see more general traffic arriving at your website.

Good luck. Do let me know how you get on!

Do you have an offline business and wondering if starting an online venture going to help in any way? Are your daily sales amazing but at the same time wondering if the same could be derived by launching a website and having these products available to your clients? Confused with the facts that all your other business friends have to say about owning an online business? Then how about reading the following to find out if such a diversification is a prudent investment for you?

Even before you could go about creating and hosting your website, you would first have to think if you are ready for such an investment and increased workload. Yes, starting an online business would definitely bring in an increase in the generated revenue, but that also means setting apart more time and money during the initial phases to ensure that it is successful.

You need to realise that most business owners who are more comfortable with an offline business can never manage an online business. Science and technology is always changing and such a change is definitely witnessed with the internet too. The internet is constantly changing for the better to make it more convenient for users and buyers.

Having an online business is nothing like owning a shop or any other form of offline business. With a shop, you get to meet your customers, greet them and provide proper service to ensure better satisfaction. With each sale, you actually know if the customer was satisfied and if he or she is going to come back to your shop. The same cannot be said for an online business because your customer would check for a product, pay for it and expect it to be delivered soon.

If you need your online business to work for you than make certain that you always remember the following. First, the customer is paying you for very good quality. That means you better deliver the quality that you had offered on your website and nothing less. Second, the customer is shopping online for the fact that he or she does not have the time to go to a shop and they are OK with the time frame mentioned for delivery. Hence, make it a point to deliver the good on or before the mentioned time. Do not make room for delay nor any excuses, ever.

Learning search engine optimization can be difficult without some sort of SEO tool to help decipher in which direction your marketing efforts are headed. Though there are, in fact, many online SEO tools that can help with your internet marketing campaign, perhaps the most beneficial is an SEO tool that analyzes your entire website.

This type of tool, usually offered free of charge, acts in a similar way to search engine crawlers. It takes a look at all the elements on the web page that you input, reads and analyzes them, and gives you a measure of how successful or ineffective your SEO efforts are compared with current search engine algorithms.

Even though Google and other search engines don’t reveal their entire algorithms with which websites and pages are ranks–which means that no tool can be 100% accurate–the analyzer SEO tool uses industry standards in what has been deemed important to the internet marketing field.

Analyzing your Meta Tags

A few of the important elements of your site are your HTML Meta tags, including title, description, and keywords tags. These are words and phrases found in the HTML portion of your site, which are inserted as a result of your internet marketing campaign, that are relevant to what your entire site is about.

The online analyzer SEO tool reviews these Meta tags to determine both their length and relevancy. Using internet marketing knowledge about how to structure these parts of your website, the SEO tool gives you an approximation of how successful your Meta tags are for Google and other search engines.

Analyzing Links and URLs

Another way in which your site is analyzed by SEO tools is through the links and URL anchor text found within your website. Keywords found in the anchor text are becoming increasingly important as search engine food, perhaps because of the relevancy attached to the keywords in contrast to your website.

In addition, the keywords found throughout your entire site–not just in URL anchor text–also matter as search engines such as Google use these to help identify the relevancy of your site’s content. These are issues which are both analyzed by the SEO tool.

Showing your Website in Search

To give you a good idea of how your site is ranking in Google, the online SEO tools give you a general idea of how your website will appear when a searcher types in terms or keywords which your site ranks for. The tool crawls your site and pieces together the descriptions and titles from Meta tags and other content to show you how your site will be found.

Of course, the simulated search engine result may not be accurate because some search engines may not use the description tag of your site and external sources, such as information taken from the Open Directory Project, may be used instead. However, this can give you a good idea of whether search users will find your site to make sense before even clicking through to it.

All things considered, the site analyzer SEO tool gives you a good grasp on the types of information found within your website that search engine crawlers use. By taking a look at this information–including Meta tags and website keywords–you’ll have a better understanding of how to improve and work your search engine optimization efforts.

After years of having its news generated by algorithms, Google News is testing a new “Editor’s Pick” section with publishers, enabling them to select and promote specific content to users.

The new feature — a module of content that is hand-picked by editors at partnering news organizations — with a “small percentage” of users, according to report by Megan Garber of Nieman Lab. Partners include less than a dozen publishers, such as Reuters, Slate and The Washington Post.

Although social media and other web tools have enabled users to personalize their news streams, the ubiquity of content has created an echo chamber that some readers are trying to parse through to find not only what they want to know, but the news they “need” to know as well. This is where human “editors” and curators play a crucial role in helping readers filter through the noise.

And although it is only a small test, it marks a significant shift for Google News (Google News), which includes the footer tagline: “The selection and placement of stories on this page were determined automatically by a computer program.” See the screenshot of stories picked by Slate’s editors below:

The Value of Curation in the Age of Personalized News

It may be a step in the right direction for Google (Google) — who began experimenting with new content formats to present content using the likes of FastFlip and contextualized content with Living Stories — to help news organizations and showcase the curation expertise of editors. It can also give publishers the opportunity to put forward and promote content that may not be performing well in terms of traffic or meme value, but are important to share in the interest of public awareness (i.e. government scandals to hold officials accountable, human rights injustices in countries afar, etc.).

There is no doubt that news has become increasingly social; readers are often pointed to content that is recommended by friends on Facebook (Facebook), Twitter (Twitter) and Digg (Digg). That’s because there is a lot of value in receiving news from friends, whom often have similar interests.

News That Content Farms Can’t Point You To

Limor Elkayam, the founder of iSpotAStory.com, which curates content from the Web using editors, told Mashable (Mashable) that she thinks that Google is realizing the value and benefit of having human editors filtering content.

“Computer algorithms are great for many things, but when it comes to news, people still want that human element, telling them what they should read or pay attention to; it’s why people love Twitter for getting news…there’s a human behind it.”

Whatever Google decides to do with the feature, it has the potential to add a lot of value to readers in getting pointed to content by professional journalists. What do you think? Is this a feature you find worthwhile?
